Hairveda Product Haul…First Impressions: Vatika Frosting & Hydra Silica Tea Mist

Hi everyone!! I just wanted to share with you a small product haul that I received in the mail from Hairveda. I made a purchased during a 20% off sale that held last month. My order was made on the 27th and I just got it in the mail yesterday the 16 of September. It takes a while because all of their product are made to order to be fresh upon arrival.

The items that I purchased were the Vatika Hair Protection Frosting & the Hydra Silica Hair Nourishing Tea Mist.

The Hair Frosting was $8.79 for an 8 oz jar on sale, but it normally retails at $10.99. Still pretty resonable.

The Hydra Tea Mist was $5.40 for a 4 oz bottle on sale, it normally retails at about $6.75. Still a good deal.

The Vatika Hair Protection Frosting is an herb infused coconut oil that smells like cupcake frosting!!! It smells heavenly. this product can be used for:

Prewash treatments, oil cleansing methods, sealing in moisture, and to enhance your conditioners.

The texture is really smooth and it melts when you rub it in. This product is solid in cool temperatures, and turns to a liquid when at room temperature.

This product should also be kept in a cool dry place away from sunlight.

I purchased this product to pre-poo my hair and to seal my ends.

The Hydra Silica hair Nourishing Tea Mist is a misting spray for the hair and body. It contains special blend of tea that will soften the hair and skin when applied. It claims to have a mango scent, but it smells really clean like a citrus scent. It’s not too bad, but I don’t mind a clean scent it mellows out after a few seconds.

This product cn also be used for detangling.

I’ve used this product, butmy hair has been twisted with a gel so I can’t really tell what it’s done. So this is just a first impression.

So I will be back with the initial use of these products.

Blowdry, Flat Iron,Trim..Natural Hair

Hi guys… I just wanted to share with you my experience with blowing out my hair flat ironing for the first time, and trimming my ends.

What I did first was pre-poo my hair with raw honey and olive oil with heat for about 15 minutes.

After pre-pooing I Clarified with Giovanni 50:50 hydrating balanced shampoo and followed with the 50:50 hydrating calming conditioner.

Then I did a full-on protein treatment with Aphogee’s 2-Step Protein treatment.

I applied a heat protestant by Tresume’ then I blow dried and flat ironed my hair in sections.

It’s NOT bone straight as you will see it still has a lot of texture it it. I just wanted to flat iron it to trim my ends.

My ends needed a trim really bad!!!!

Pictures after the trim. I took off about 1/2 give or take.

My hair started to revert so it may look like I trimmed a lot, but I didn’t.

After Trimming I sectioned my hair for styling!!! I just did one of my signature styles Flat Twists with Bantu Knots.. I have a post coming soon on that style.

I did two sections on each side in the front, one section on top in the front, and two big sections on each side in the back.

My Avocado Hair Treatment

This is one of my favorite hair recipes to mix up for deep conditioning or to use as a hair mask. I like this mixture because it makes my hair soft and keeps it healthy.

Below are the items and steps you will need to follow.

What you will need to begin is:

A ripe quality Avocado (two if you have longer hair you be the judge)

Olive oil, jojoba oil, and coconut oil

**Don’t mind the conditioner it was for another mixture you can add you favorite conditioner if you chose to it’s optional.

And a mixing bowl.

Open the avocado and scoop out how much you will need into your mixing bowl. ( I only used half of a half. My hair was short at the time.)

The avocado should be soft and creamy to the touch not too mushy.

Benefits of the avocado are nourishment for the hair, and it contains good vitamins to help keep the hair healthy.

Now add the oils to the bowl. These are the oils I used they are optional use whatever you like:

Just eyeball how much of each oil you want to add.

Olive oil for softness and sheen (it also penetrates the hair shaft), jojoba oil for nourishment (it’s also closes to the natural oils the skin and scalp makes so that’s a plus), and coconut oil as a natural hair conditioner and helps to relief dry itchy scalp ( it also penetrates the hair shaft).

Now Mix.

This is how the mixture should look after mixing. It should be smooth and creamy. Make sure you mash out all of the lumps from the avocado.

Now apply to the hair evenly. Comb through if you would like.

Now apply a processing cap. You can do other things while this sits, or you can sit under a heated dryer, or a hair therapy wrap for 10-15 minutes or longer if you have more hair. This will ensure that the oils penetrate the hair and scalp.

After letting this mixture set on the hair RINSE YOUR HAIR REALLY WELL. The avocado has pulp in them kind of like the strings on a banana peel, so you want to make sure all of that is rinsed completely from the hair.

TIP#1: To avoid a lot of pulp from the avocado buy quality avocados. The cheap ones at the bargain store might be in your price range, but you will get a lot of pulp left in your hair.

TIP#2 If you use heat such as the dryer or hair therapy wrap let your hair cool before rinsing. You don’t want to shock the hair with cool water just yet. Unless your done and ready for styling.

TIP#3: If you have pulp left in your hair after you rinsed comb through your hair with a denman brush or detangling comb and then rinse again.

This hair recipe can be used as a pre-poo treatment or a regular deep conditioning treatment twice a week.

Kenra Moisturizing Shampoo!!!!

I wanted to share a new shampoo that I recently purchased. It is a Moisturizing Shampoo from the Kenra Professionals line. I found out about this shampoo from a Youtuber named Ateya. It’s nothing natural, but it does not contain any harsh sulfates either. The Kenra site included information about the key ingredients in which I noticed the long term benefits after only one use.

Sodium Myreth Sulfate A highly concentrated primary cleansing ingredient noted for mildness that produces rich, dense lather when formulated with secondary cleansing ingredients.
Cocamidopropyl Betaine A mild cleansing and conditioning agent that improves wet and dry combing.
Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein A protein that adds moisture to hair.
Polyquaternium-10 A conditioning agent that moisturizes and adds manageability to hair

This product claims to “hydrate” the hair and provide “extra emollients and hydrolyzed wheat protein.” Its a gentle cleanser that helps “correct moisture deficiency and improves manageability.” The lather was great and it felt like I was massaging nothing but moisture into my hair. My hair looked and felt hydrated and alive.

I use this shampoo for the first time last Saturday 8/6/2011 and today is the 16th and I am still reaping the benefits of this shampoo. It has long-term effects on the hair which it absolutely adore.

My hair had a “moisture deficiency” problem that most know as “porosity.” With using this product I can say that my hair is well on it’s way to recovery.

I can’t use many natural products because I have an allergy to most natural ingredients. I tried the Shea Moisture’s Moisture Retention shampoo and conditioner, and totally loved it, but my body didn’t agree; I was allergic to it. I had been using Giovanni 50:50 to clarify every time I washed my hair I knew that I needed a moisturizing shampoo, but I didn’t know where to start. I am so glad that I decided to give this shampoo a try. I LOVE IT!!

My hair has improved 100% with only one use of this shampoo. My hair is very soft and holds the moisture that I apply to it. The elasticity is amazing, and my cuticles seem to be nailed shut LOL!!! It’s shiny and actually feels silky soft. I haven’t tried the conditioner as of yet, but with seeing improvement from the shampoo alone the conditioner must be out of this world.

The only con I found with this shampoo for MY hair is that my hair shrinks a lot more even with stretching it by putting it in braids. Which is a bad thing when I’m trying to wear a stretched style. My hair shrinks when any moisture touches it, but it’s good to know that it is well moisturized. I don’t mine it that much, but I think this shampoo for me is good when I want to wear twists, or a style like kinky twists where my hair won’t be out.

This shampoo is definitely a staple, and I can’t wait to try the conditioner. :-)

This shampoo is for all hair types and textures.

Two-Strand Twist Bantu Knot Out My Signature Style (Step-by-Step)

First you want to start off by shampooing or co-washing your hair. I chose to co-wash with Giovanni 50:50, my all time favorite conditioner.

Next the items that you need are as followed:

Combs one for detangling, and the other to gently and thoroughly detangle the ends as you twist.(I found that it helps me avoid a lot of Single-strand knots we all know how troubling those can be).

Water to re-wet the hair if it dries out.

Olive oil or the oil you prefer to; moisturize and seal in the water.

A cream moisturizer to lock and seal in the water and oil.

(Use any cream moisturizer you like.)

**Method used to seal in moisture was learned from Blackoynx77 on YouTube. L.O.C Liquid, Oil, Cream.

And a styling product or your choice. You can use a gel, or twisting butter, twisting jelly, anything that gives your hair a nice hold. Can also be done using Qhemet Biologic’s Honeybush Soft Tea Gel (It provides a SOFT HOLD if that is what you prefer).

Next you will put your hair into small to medium twists. I like mini twists it makes the look more defined and coily.

After you have completed the twists you will then Bantu Knot each individual twist, or you can Bantu knot two twists together.

No more than two twists at a time. Bantu knotting more than two twists at once will cause gaps, and when you undo the knots you will not have a nice coily effect throughout.

Bantu knotting each individual twist , or two twists at a time will ensure a more even natural look without those horrible gaps.

( I learned through trail and error). :-)

Now you can wear this style for as long as you want, or undo the knots the next day. You can undo the knots and wear it that way, or separate the individual twists for a more fuller look.

That picture was about 8 hours after undoing the knots and twists. My roots eventually puffed out to help fill in some spots where my scalp showed.

The gel that I used holds so good it’s for locs to, so it hold this style so well, but I twisted them to close to the scalp and had to wait until my roots puffed out to get a complete full look.

The style gets better and better as you keep wearing it. With the gel I used this style lasts me for about 3-4 days if I tye my hair up at night.

To preserver this style I just re-twists and re-bantu knot (when I feel like it LOL)

If you have shorter hair like me as your hair grows the style will get better, and you won’t be able to see the scalp as much.

I hope someone finds this helpful and for the 4b/4c naturals this is a was to get a curly coily look just to change it up a bit. I have a bit of every texture, but my coils in the back are the only defined section, so this style helps me achieve a defined look throughout.

I like this style, but my favorite style of course is my fro puff I love my fro, but this is something just to jazz up my style a bit!!

L.O.C. Moisture Sealing Method

Hi!!! I wanted to share this bit of information with you guys, and I want you to share with others that are newly natural and may not know.!!!

I follow *Blackonyx77 on YouTube, and she shared a video with us about her moisturizing and sealing method called L.O.C.; which stands for LIQUID, OIL, CREAM. I would have never thought to use that combo. I have been following that method for over a month a believe, and I have seen a huge difference in how my hair retains moisture.

My hair before was very porous, and it went through a very dry phase earlier this year and NOTHING helped. My hair was dry, brittle, and it shed like crazy. I was so happy to find something that would help my hair keep it’s moisturizer at all times.

So if you are having moisture problems give this method a try!!!
